Free Font Friday – Work Sans
“Work Sans” is a modern grotesque font in ten weights. It was designed primarily for the web, with simplified features and oversized diacritic marks and punctuation.
Wei Huang designed Work Sans in 2014 and published it on github under the SIL Open Font License V. 1.1. He implemented the very cool webfont sample weight slider on the Work Sans page here, plus the displays as a hedgehog, and who doesn’t like hedgehogs?
Work Sans is a typeface based loosely on early Grotesques. The core of the fonts are optimised for on-screen medium-sized text usage (14px-48px) – but still can be used in print well.
